All 16 players and their families
travelled to
We all had a great week together and
the weather was fantastic not even a spot of rain all week. Activities enjoyed by the players included
‘Manhunt’ games around the
Some of the highlights of the week
were:-
Tom decided that Annie’s 22nd birthday was the ideal time to propose, so in true gentlemans fashion, he got down on one knee and presented her with a beautiful ring. Annie accepted and a great night of celebrations followed. Our congratulations to them both.
Most of the men
in our group headed off for a game of golf early on Wednesday morning. Names were drawn out a hat to divide them
into 4 teams hopefully allowing a mixture of experienced and new players.
Purple Team –
Richard J, Nick and Wendell - Total
Score -141
Pink Team –
Dick, Gary, Richard P – Total Score - 162
Blue Team –
Maurice, Karl (Chief paddler and ball finder), Mark and Steve – Total Score -
161
Green Team –
Tom, Paul and Wayne – Total Score - 158
A good morning with loads of laughs, a bit of paddling (and a few lost balls) was had by all, and some aches and pains and sunburned faces followed.
Maurice and Tom
arranged a games afternoon in Dawlish Warren and although just a few families
attended it was a really fun afternoon, with a game of badminton a cricket
match and go-carting.
After some
research before leaving home Anita managed to book an Astroturf pitch for us to
use on the last day of our holiday to hold our annual ‘Wanderers v Everyone
else’ match. The weather was very warm
so we allowed for plenty of breaks for the more mature players!!!
‘Everyone else’
were the winning team with goals from Baz (2) and Nick D and Harry scored for the Wanderers. Final Score 3-1.
Men of the Match were – Nathan for his distribution of the ball and non-stop running and Mark F for taking out most of the Wanderers team with his tackles.
Last but not least our friendly match:-
Manager James very kindly agreed to provide a pitch and a squad for us to play and were very welcoming to us all. James was Captain for the day (after missing the tour match last year due to being in hospital) and handed over a Pennant on behalf of the team. Nathan T kindly agreed to be linesman for this match
Our boys had spent a very busy day on
site in Dawlish, so appeared to be in holiday mode for the first half of the
match and we came in at half time 6-0 down.
The second half was completely
different we began to play football. We
were strong in all areas of the pitch and despite a final score of 9-0 to Topsham, all players should be very
proud of their performance against a team who have not lost a match all season.
Men of the match were:
Jace for his non-stop effort and
encouragement to the team
Tom for his determination to tackle and for playing his best match of the season.
We were invited into their clubhouse
for food, and were amazed to find plenty of burgers, chips, pizza and sausage
rolls which were thoroughly enjoyed by us all.
We would like to again extend our huge thanks to James, his mum and all the ladies responsible for the wonderful spread of food which they laid on for us.
